Spring Rush
BLACK AND WHITE
White glistened at Donna Karan and Missoni, a sharp contrast to Miu Miu and Karl Lagerfeld where models lived dangerously with blackened lids. White highlights open up the eyes while the revved up black eye is flirty and funky at the same time.
Editor’s tip: For white, finding the right tone is key, and when going black, an opaque base is a must.
Cargo Eye Lighter in White, Pink or Gold, $18 CDN. Stila Smudgepots in Black, $20 CDN.

FRUITFUL LIPSThis season’s spin on the indulgent lip and bare eye was delicious. Whether it was Hussein Chalayan’s choice of berry pink or Tuleh’s tomato red, lips simply popped.
Editor’s tip: Dust the eyes with a sheer shimmer and moisten the lips to create the perfect pout.
Clarins Joli Rouge Brillant in Papaya, $27 CDN. Stila Lipstick in Sonya, $23 CDN.

TWISTED SMOKE
Shimmery browns and golds created a soft, yet glamourous take on the traditional smokey eye as seen at the DSquared show. When coupled with plush, just-kissed lips, the term ‘femme fatale’ was reinvented. A dab of lip stain compliments this look.
Editor’s tip: Thoroughly blot a red or pink lipstick. Top it with a smidgen of Vaseline for a just-kissed smile.
NARS Lip Gloss/Lip Stain Duo in Turkish Delight/Sayonara, $32 CDN. NARS Single Eyeshadow in Galapagos, $26 CDN. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Glimmer in True Gold 14k, $13 CDN.

COPIOUS CORALS
Corals made a splash on the runway from New York to Milan. Rodarte and Proenza Schouler embraced vibrant corals on the lips and eyes while Giambattista Valli chose an allover rustic look that mixed both burnt and flushed hues.
Editor’s tip: Bright corals work best when worn on one feature. Choose softer corals for the full-face look.
M.A.C Eyeshadow in Coral, $17 CDN. M.A.C Lipstick in Vegas Volt, $16.50 CDN. Cargo Beach Blush in Coral, $32 CDN.

HAIR ABSTRACT
“‘Hair dressing’ is getting away from architectural cuts and getting into abstract shapes via the dressing of hair,” says Toronto-based hairstylist Fabio Sementilli. Enter the runway looks of Christian Dior and Philip Lam, which showcased the unexpected placement of traditional hair buns in abstract shapes. Get the look by exploring the art of backcombing (yes, it’s an art) and the use of extensions for added thickness.
Editor’s tip: Begin with rollers in you hair. Then pull your hair into an alternatively placed ponytail and pin pieces of hair to create a bun.
Wella System Professional Supermousse, $12 CDN. John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Out Hold Hair Spray, $8.69 CDN.

CURLY SUE
Who doesn’t love the look of the tousled curls? Designers certainly do; curls are always hot on the runway. DSquared2 spiked the look with a 40’s vibe—concentrating the voluminous curl only on the bottom half of the hair.
Editor’s tip: Dry your hair then set only the bottom length of your hair with hot rollers. Finish by brushing out the curls.
Sebastian Mousse Forte, $14 CDN. Sebastian Trilliant Shine Spray, $21 CDN.
