Former England national team captain and association footballer David Beckham  was amongst London's organizing chairman Sebastian Coe and Princess Anne representing UK in Athens for the torch handing over ceremony.
He will be joining the two in escorting the flame to UK for this year's Olympics games.
Tonight the flame will arrive in southwestern England on the eve of a 70-day torch relay for the 2012 London Olympics. It will arrive at a Royal Navy air station in Cornwall carried by Princess Anne, the head of the British Olympic Committee followed by Beckham who will light the caldron. The Los Angeles Galaxy star has been involved in the London Games since the committee's launch in 2005.
