ANOKHI Magazine Puts the Vibrant and Diverse South Asian Mainstream Market on Display Toronto , Ontario ( February 9, 2009 ) – Presented by ROGERS Communications and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, award-winning ANOKHI Magazine’s 6th Anniversary Sexy & Successful Awards, Fashion Show and Entertainment extravaganza which was held on Friday February 6, 2009 was an unmitigated success. The appearance of the beautiful and talented international actress Freida Pinto star of the runaway hit movie, Slumdog Millionaire, proved to be a major highlight of the Gala, which played before a packed house of almost thirteen hundred people at Toronto’s premier entertainment venue, The Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex. ANOKHI Magazine’s Annual Sexy & Successful Awards celebrated the achievements and contributions of South Asians in Western society. This year’s awards went to Mohit Rajhans for Most Promising Media Personality, Shalini Vadhera for Most Promising Entrepreneur, Zameer for Most Promising Musical Artist, DJ Jiten for DJ of the Year, Jas & Manny Brar for Entrepreneurs of the Year, Shinan Govani for Columnist of the Year, DesiHits.com for Excellence in New Media, Prriya & Chintan for Excellence in Fashion Design, Swami for Excellence in Music and Freida Pinto for International Acheivement in Film. Ms. Pinto’s Special Achievement Award was presented to her by the head of 20 TH CENTURY FOX , Canada , Mr. Barry Newstead. Another highlight of the evening was the first Canadian runway show by two of India ’s premier celebrity fashion designers Prriya & Chintan whose latest collection on the ANOKHI Runway wowed the crowd. The talented soft rock vocal style of Canada ’s ZAMEER delighted all in attendance, and British ‘pop’ sensation SWAMI, had the entire place jamming with their show stopping performance that lead into the evening’s sensational After Party hosted by Shanu & Karim. Gala sponsors, Mr. Bobby Sahni, Manager of Multicultural Marketing at ROGERS and Mr. Bill Thomas, CEO of the Heart & Stroke Foundation both addressed the audience, expressing their respective organizations pleasure to be a part of ANOKHI’s annual event. Hina P. Ansari was formally introduced as ANOKHI’s new Editor-in-Chief and she spoke about the redesign of ANOKHI and the improvements to the magazine’s already award winning editorial content. Ms. Ansari brings to ANOKHI a wealth of publishing experience, having worked at various media outlets including an 11 year editorial tenure with FLARE Magazine. PRESS RELEASE 'Slumdog Millionaire' Actress Among Celebrity Guests at Awards Gala ANOKHI Magazine to celebrate its 6th Anniversary with star-studded Entertainment and Awards Show (TORONTO, ON) - ANOKHI Magazine, the longest running South Asian fashion, lifestyle and entertainment magazine in North America, gears up to celebrate the release of its 6th Anniversary Collector's Issue by throwing a star-studded Awards Gala and Entertainment Show presented by ROGERS, at the prestigious Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex in Toronto on February 6th, 2009. Fox Searchlight's Slumdog Millionaire star and ANOKHI Magazine's 6th Anniversary Collector's issue cover personality, Freida Pinto will make her only Canadian appearance at the Gala before flying to London for the BAFTAs and then onto Los Angeles for the Oscars. ANOKHI's Sexy and Successful Awards Gala will honour talented South Asians from the Media, Entertainment and Fashion industries from across Canada, the US, UK and internationally who will all be flying in to celebrate the Global South Asian success story. The Awards show will be hosted by well-known media personalities, Farah Nassar (City-TV), Devo Brown (Flow 93.5) and Veronica Chail (OMNI TV).
