Sydney-Sydney Film Festival
The Sydney Film Festival celebrated its 58th event this year. The festival ran from June 8 to 19 at some of Sydney’s most popular venues. The festival showed 161 films – 75 feature films, 39 documentaries, 34 shorts and 13 retrospective titles. Forty-two countries entered in this year’s festival with pieces in 47 different languages. The SFF also showed 10 world première and a number of local premieres. Aussie talents mixed and mingled with spectators and other stars over the course of the 12-day event. The electric opening-night gala had stars flowing in, with appearances from Andrea Lang, April Rose Pengilly, Katherine Hicks, Maia Thomas, Hattie Dalton and many more with a special guest appearance from Cate Blanchett. Jack Black, Lucy Liu and Kung Fu Panda 2 director Jennifer Yuh Nelson were there at SFF’s Family Day to introduce the movie. International talents filled the panel for the successful competition component to the festival. Film director Chen Kaige was this year’s jury president.
