New York - The Light of India Awards
The first ever Remit 2 India:The Light of India Awards celebrated the best in Indian leaders and visionaries, on April 22 in New York. The iconic Waldorf Astoria Hotel rolled out the red carpet for some of the finest Indian personalities, including Her Excellency Meera Shankar, the Indian Ambassador to the U.S., who was honoured on stage by actor, Shabana Azmi, singer Raghav Sachar and actor/comedian Aasif Mandvi.
Awards went to: MasterCard president and chief operating officer Ajay Banga and Citigroup chief executive officer Vikram Pandit for recognition in the corporate leadership field; Khosla Ventures chief executive officer Vinod Khosla and InfoSpace and Intelius founder Naveen Jain for business leadership; Former member of Parliament Dr. Ruby Dhalla and Iowa State Senator Swati Dandekar for political leadership: and Silicon Spice Inc. chief executive officer Vinod Dham and Harvard Medical School assistant professor of medicine and health sciences Shiladitya Sengupta for achievement in science and technology. The journalism and literature awards went to writer and novelist Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni, poet, novelist, travel writer and biographer Vikram Sethb and writer and novelist Salman Rushdie. The last award went to Mira Nair, film director and producer for the arts and entertainment field. The celebratory event was hosted by model Nina Manuel and media personality Jitin Hingorani.
