Leander Paes, ranked 7th in the world as a doubles player in Tennis is being paired with 207th-ranked Vishnu Vardhan announced the All India Tennis Association (AITA ). The decision came about after fellow peers Rohan Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi refused to play with Paes. The reason given for the refusal was that the players found Paes untrustworthy reported by dinnews.tv. Bopanna ranked at 13 and Bhupathi 15 both expressed their relief on the final call that allows the duo to team up for the upcoming London Olympics.
"We are excited that we will be playing together at the Olympics and our sole focus is now on our team's preparations for the Games," they said in a joint statement.
In the past Bhupathi has experienced successes with Paes with French open wins, Wimbledon and represented India at previous Olympics. Since their 2002 breakup of working together fulltime the 2 have managed to work alongside each other so why the defiance now? No explanation has been given other than the distrust.
What do you think of the final call? We'd love to get your thoughts.
