Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi & Mira Nair Receive The Padma Bhushan Award.
Veteran Actors Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Film Director/Producer/Writer Mira Nair are among those chosen to receive India's prestigious Padma Bhushan, civilian award.
The Padma awards are handed out by the President for civilian contribution in a variety of fields. The three receive their award in the art cinema category. This year's recipients total 109.
The legendary action man Dharmendra has worked in a plethora of genres from action to comedy to drama and known for his work in classics such as 'Sholay'.
Shabana a five time national award winner has worked in mainstream Bollywood and international cinema as well as artistic and controversial movies. The dramatic actress has also won the international award for best actress back in 93 for her role in the movie 'LIBAAS' in North Korea.
Mira Nair who resides in the US found global recognition with the movie 'Salaam Bombay' which was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA. Other movies Nair is known for are 'Monsoon wedding' and 'The Namesake'.
Congratulations to the three and all the other recipients of the third largest civilian award!
