18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Award took place Sunday, 29th January 2012 at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. Hollywood celebs from TV and the big screen came out to celebrate one another in the only award show where peers get to make the final decision and vote on who gets the award.
The movie 'The Help' cleaned house by taking all the major awards. Best Actress for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role went to Octavia Spencer; the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role went to Actress Viola Davis and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award.
"Boardwalk Empire" also stole the show with a few wins in the T.V. drama category. The SAG went to Steve Buscemi for best Male Actor in a Drama Series and also the show for best ensemble.
Most gracious award wins went to the golden girl who's still rocking it, Betty White won for her part in 'Hot in Cleveland'. She thanked her costars and looked genuinely surprised by the win.
Viola Davis shocker win over Meryl Streep for female in a leading role was also graciously accepted. She reminded the audience that prejudice is a fight for everyone and not just a racial one.
Another well-deserved win went to Jean DuJardin for his male lead in the movie 'The Artist'.
The prime time comedy main categories were no surprise with Modern family bagging the best ensemble cast and Alec Baldwin win of Male Actor in a Comedy Series award for '30 Rock.
This year's Life Achievement Award went to actress Mary Tyler Moore for her acting career that has spanned decades. The actress looked imacculate in a black shine pant suit. Her old time costar and daytime TV hubby Dick Van Dyke presented the award.
The running joke of the night was the reference to director Martin Scorsese which cast members Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy of the comedy movie Bridesmaids took full stage advantage of with their quirky on stage skit.
The red carpet also proved interesting with an array of celebrity styles.
One of our favourites goes to Glen Close in a black train gown proving that age doesn't defy glamor or femininity.
Worst: Busy Philips in an oversized, tie dye creation, need we say more.
Sexiest: Lea Michele in a thigh slit that goes on for miles.
Most Unique: Rose-byrne-sag in her embellished pantsuit.
Sweetest: Ariel winter in Knee length lace.
Best dressed couple: George Clooney and Stacy Keibler.
